BARLEY
Origin: |
Mainly used in North and Central Europe, and considered as both a winter and summer crop.
|
 |
| Appearance: |
The grains are thick-skinned and must therefore be peeled before production or processing.
|
|
| Taste: |
Pleasant aroma, individual taste. |
|
| Uses: |
After the removal of the husk, the barley grain may be processed into rolled barley and subsequently used like rice, for soups or as a nutricious side-dish.
Barley flakes can be used to add more variety to musli and bread recipes, for instance.
And while barley flour is used for breads, it can also be pre-cooked and turned into cream flour, which is fine and powdery and may again add its special taste to the dough of breads, drinks and many more foods.
Besides all this, malted barley is well known to be a major ingredient of beer.
