SMOKED SPELT-WHEAT

Origin: Already known in the Mediterrean region in the bronze age, 3000 years ago.
Today, smoked spelt-wheat is harvested mainly in South West Germany and also again in Austria. By tradition, the unripe grain is harvested and smoked.

Appearance: Grains in a husk, green to greenish-brown in colour, as it is harvested before it is fully ripe.

Taste: Intense and slightly malty in taste

Uses: For soups, stews, as a side-dish etc.

Contents: Smoked spelt-wheat is high in protein, potassium, phosphorus and iron. Basically, it contains the same nutrients as ripe spelt-wheat.
