PURPUR® or PURPLE WHEAT®
Origins: |
Even though PurPur® or Purple Wheat ® probably has its origins in what is known today as Ethiopia, it was discovered near the Red Sea in 1872. Then this ancient grain grew rare.
At the end of the 1990s Purle Wheat® was finally rediscovered by Europeans - strangely enough this time it was found in South America!

 |
| Appearance: |
Purple Wheat® contains anthocyanins, plant flavonoid pigments which are anti-oxidative. These flavonoids are responsible for the purple tone in the fine colour of this ancient grain and can be found in grapes, berries or red wine, e.g. (By the way, they are said to lower cholesterol levels and help prevent cancer.)
Since the pigments are mainly located in the skin of the grain, they make Purple Wheat® flakes especially attractive and cause the stark contrast between dark skin and light core.

|
| Taste: |
Typical of the variety, somewhat sweet. |
|
| Uses: |
Just like wheat, Purple Wheat® allows for the free flow of creativity when it comes to developing new products. From sparingly used Purple Wheat® flakes in a 12-cereal-musli down to a pure Purple Wheat® baguette, the sky’s the limit. Likewise, in waffles, biscuits, noodles or ready-meals (pre-cooked flakes are ideal for the latter!) Purple Wheat® is sure to please the palate.
